Ultrasound Tomography is an advanced imaging technique used to detect defects within any concrete structure.
An ultrasound pulse is produced by hitting the surface with a small metal object, the resulting shear wave reflections are recorded. A two-dimensional array of transducers captures these reflections which is used to generate an image.
When evaluating large concrete structures, such as thick slabs, thick foundations, beams or columns. Conventional GPR is unable to provide accurate readings due to interference at larger depths within these structures.
Ultrasound Tomography can be used to map out honeycombing, voids, large cracks or to determine the thickness of reinforced concrete structures up a depth of 2.5 meters.
